NASHVILLE, TN – Jumpstart Foundry, a Nashville-based private investment firm specializing in seed-stage health investments, announced today its first round of 2020 portfolio selections. Consisting of 16 startups chosen from a pool of more than 250 applicants, the first round of 2020 portfolio selections brings the total number of investments to more than 100 for the TN firm.

Ranked as the most active venture capital investor in Tennessee by CB Insights, Jumpstart annually makes approximately 20 uniform investments of $150,000 via convertible SAFE notes to innovative companies in the health space. These seed companies are expected to have both a tremendous impact in the health domain while driving strong financial returns.

“This new cohort presents an extremely novel set of solutions,” said Jumpstart Foundry COO Dr. Brian Dougherty. “The unique, outside-of-the-box approaches that these companies are creating to tackle key health issues are as exciting as they are inventive.”

The 2020 class of the Jumpstart Foundry portfolio companies includes a variety of novel healthcare applications such as staffing optimization, population health management, augmented reality, and medication cost management. All 16 companies are expected to participate in a virtual onboarding orientation starting next week to receive feedback from Jumpstart’s network of industry experts and to be indoctrinated into The Jumpstart Refinery, Jumpstart’s proprietary platform for growth acceleration.

Eller Mallchok, Managing Director of Jumpstart Foundry, was very impressed with both the strength and quantity of this round’s applicants stating, “we were pleased to see such an incredible number of highly qualified founders with applicable solutions to real problems we had identified within the healthcare industry.”

Amid a time of uncertainty, Jumpstart Foundry is not taking their foot off the investment pedal. With plans to make a total of 20 investments in 2020, the management team is poised to add four more companies by year’s end. “The need for healthcare innovation has never been greater and our mission to make something better in healthcare is proving to be more important than ever,” said Mallchok.
